This collection of audio erotica contains a real gem from Charly Brown called The Housewife and the Business Man. It’s about a housewife who gleefully sodomizes her husband while encouraging all of America to join in the fun. Very “Up With People”. Susie Bright is also featured. Available on itunes.

Proceeds from OUT LOUD benefited the International Gay & Lesbian Human Rights Commission. San Francisco's notorious synth-pop group Voice Farm offer an infectious celebration of the city's queer culture on the seductive anthem Shave Your Head. Rare tracks from U2 and Throwing Muses are included, as well as contributions from Everything But the Girl and Billy Bragg ("Sexuality") which were previously released but take on new life in the context of this album.   download free songs

Extended dance versions of Free Love remixed by Michael R. Hutchinson

free_love_gem.jpg   One of many favorite record covers designed by Tom Bonauro. This features Bubala (Boo-boo) the official Voice Farm mascot of many years. Boo-boo was a real people person, and she loved to hang out during rehearsals and recording sessions. Her composure and professionalism during the photographic sitting for this cover was remarkable, better than most humans. See out-takes in gallery.

bigger cooler weirder
Check out the video for Free Love. Tom Bonauro directed this “weird & wonderful” black & white beauty. The Oblong Rhonda Dancers never looked more charming in their Maidenform bras and Jockey briefs. It was banned from MTV, but it ended up in heavy rotation on the Playboy channel!

Voice Farm

Ralph Records originally put out our second full length album. Everyone at Ralph Records (The Residents) was wonderful, charming and a bit crazy. Perfect for Voice Farm. Tom Bonauro created the beautiful photogram for the  album cover.Much of this record was recorded in England with eccentric producer Wally Brill in a 16th century country courthouse called The Justice Room.

the world we live in
Voice Farm’s first album was recorded and mastered at the legendary Automatt in San Francisco. There was still a left over music vibe in the city from the Summer Of Love. That wasn’t our scene, but it was great to run into Grace Slick rehearsing at The Automatt. David Kahne (who went on to produce The Bangles) produced and engineered this LP. Deborah  Iyall of Romeo Void warned us that David was a little high strung. I’m sure we drove him crazy. We really didn’t know anything about music. He kept yelling at Charly; “Can’t you hear yourself, can’t you hear yourself!?” Pitch, what’s that exactly?

Home invasion set to a electro-pop beat. “There’s a screwdriver coming through the screen door!” Backed with the Yoko Ono Fluxus inspired instructions for living. So very Voice Farm.

sleep, modern things
This is where it all started. In a basement room lined with egg cartons, two synthesizers, a broken Farfisa organ and a beat box. Voice Farm’s first single came in a variety of handmade silkscreened covers. Red, yellow and blue. Former band-mate graphic artist Gary Miles worked his magic on these.

What do Dead Kennedys, Flipper, D.O.A., Black Flag, The Circle Jerks, Christian Lunch, The Feederz and Voice Farm have in common?

They’re all on this seminal 1981 compilation from Alternative Tentacles. The album ends with Sleep by Voice Farm, track 8 on side 2.

We were art punks, but all the hard core people were nice to us. The one exception might be when the Offs destroyed our friend Judy’s (of The Pink Section) studio apartment in San Francisco by smearing a giant

For a great visual reference of this era, check out the photo book; “We’re Desperate, The Punk Rock Photography Of Jim Jacoy”. Judy and Charly are on facing pages.
